Description

Hooded Siskin high up in the mountains of Colombia at Hacienda El Bosque in Manizales County.

Hooded Siskin (Spinus magellanicus)—not an Andean Siskin (Spinus spinescens). In my photo the bird has its head turned at an angle that blocks view of the throat, possibly because it was preening its breast at the moment I snapped the picture. Checklist photos clearly show the complete black hood.

Ebird Checklist, August 3, 2024 (additional sharper photos of head): https://ebird.org/checklist/S191402450

Hooded Siskin (Spinus magellanicus) is a small perching bird in the Finches, Euphonias, and Allies (Fringillidae) family.
