It looks like a very tiny isopod. It’s 1mm long.
I took a small piece of liverwort growing “wild” in a greenhouse with me for microscopy and later noticed this moving in the sample I took.

bizarre tiny isopods, first seen in May 2022 under bricks, from which a captive culture was established. I have yet to find a match for the weird pereopod 7 in the papers I've read, so here's hoping someone has (would be just as fun if nobody has, too!)

not A. ellipticus; comparison with one in the last photo. a little searching around turned up the species A. steptus which bears a passing resemblance, but I'm not sure it's a perfect match.

Long shot. Terrible pic, I had two dogs yanking leashes…
I was inspecting a tree-of-heaven for spotted lanternfly (none found), and came across two clusters of these bugs. Both clusters were on the undersides of branches, right at a Y-joint. The bugs are roly-poly like, but flatter and with some variance in color (grey, tan, speckled); roughly roly-poly size, as well.

Here’s my first attempt at “dissecting” an isopod, though I think that word might give me too much credit. The images I got of second pleopod are alright but not great. Do either of you have tips for clearer images? Dissecting vs microscope? What magnification do you use? Etc
Thank you!

(Not marked captive because this individual was collected under an hour before taking the photo.)
First record in Contra Costa for the species as far as I'm aware. I have observed multiple in the same area under rocks, but could never get one to sit still for long enough to take a photo of anything but a blur.
I'll be returning to take in situ photos after purchasing a quality macro lens.
