Description
I wish our bullants were like this! I assume it was the cold weather but all this BA wanted to do was run away from me and hide. Ours will only ever consider that if they have been parasitised. I thought this was going to be Myrmecia desertorum as I'd seen it was living there. It seems I need to look harder!

Description
Writhing balls of winged ants were scattered on the ground over several square metres, with more flying through the air and gathering on the base of a single eucalypt trunk nearby. I'm not sure what was going on, but I have seen a cluster of males mobbing a female once before and that could have been occurring here on a much larger scale, only they were moving so much it was difficult to see if there were females amongst all the males.

Suggestions as to what this is? It has developed teeth, so it isn't from the M. Mandibularis species group.

Day 3 in Uluṟu, visited Kata Tjuṯa. Wet, rainy, miserable, and I got wet socks, but these ants made my day!
Can’t see them great in the photos but they were definitely some Gulosa-complex Myrmecia.
