Description
The population on Nevado de Colima, though maybe not officially recognized as distinct, show some differences from typical A. religiosa. The green cones, instead of purple, are unique, also they do not tapper towards the apex like typical A. religiosa. These have been given the name A. religiosa var. colimensis.

Clearly a piñon pine, but also clearly has 3-needle leaves, which makes Colorado piñon (2-needle leaves) as poor a match as single needle piñon. Is there a 3-needle piñon out there?

Description
One of the native conifers I am sure. But which one is beyond my knowledge. Very prostrate form, not more than half a metre above the ground at any point, a wide plant about two to two and a half metres across. Note the fruiting bodies in the second picture. could not see the trunk at all.
