Description
~5.5mm long, excluding appendages.
Marie found in the vegi shadehouse yesterday.
Have had a good look around. Reminds me of Nigromyia sp & Staurostichus sp that we've found before. But the spots on the wings are NOT on the veins, they are in the middle of the wing cells. Seems unique.
Lots of similar looking photo's, but all with slightly different focal points highlighting different parts of the fly.
Unfortunately it died in the container overnight, so available for closer inspection if you're interested Chris, @chris-lambkin

Description
Images are in chronological order. Beginning with the grub's position when found, partway out of its tunnel.(Wriggling backwards, trying to extract head from the hole in the piece of semi green firewood that I'd shifted from one side of heap to the other. In so doing some full thickness bark came away, exposing the borer). After successfully extracting its head it used its front end to cling to the side of this wood segment while slowly moving away from the hole, assisted by gravity, until it dropped to the ground (between other bits of cut wood) only about 30cm below . After which I moved it onto open ground for better photos. I've no doubt there are many taxonomic options, but perhaps its the larva of one of the longhorn beetle species common to the area?

Specimen collected by @dianadavey on 8/7/24 from Wooli, NSW, and sent to me to rear (same specimen as appears in https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/227899469). I received it on 15/7/24 and the adult moth eclosed today sometime between 2:30-3:10pm. Looks like it’s probably in the Lepidoscia genus, but I’m struggling to identify it. It’s in a glass specimen tube, which made taking photos a bit tricky.
@ethanbeaver - Are you able to identify this one?
