Locally common. Corticolous on kahikatoa (Leptospermum scoparium var. scoparium). Cyanobacterial. Medulla white. Thallus dark chocolate brown to brown-green, drying grey, deeply punctate / faveolate impressed, thick and rubbery when fresh, glabrous without maculae, soredia, isidia or phyllidia, pseudocyphellae in mixtures of white, cream and yellow, restricted to thallus underside, underside otherwise densely invested iun dark chocolate brown / black tomentum; apothecia frequent, disc dark brown black to black, exiciple stellate.
Perhaps Placidium squamulosum. On roadside wall near entrance to cemetery.
Corticolous on makamaka (Ackama rosifolia. Common - Photosymbiodeme - green symbiont, thallus upper surface when moist, pseudocyphellate, without isidia, soredia or phyllidia, lobes entire, broadly rounded; lower surface white at margins, otherwise brown-black, tomentose, pseudocyphellae numerous, conspicuous, with a prominent rim (so appearing like cyphellae); medulla white; apothecia occasional, red-brown, submarginal; cyanobacterial component (formerly P. knightii D.J.Galloway) similar but upper surface blue-black when moist, faintly maculate.
