Cap slimy. Flesh yellows then browns when cut. Stipe has typical Russula texture in the outer layer, but the inside is spongy/pithy. Blue fluorescent layer under pigmented layer in cap. Found many of these in the area and it should be noted that none of them showed any insect infestation, unlike other Russulas in the same vicinity. Taste mild.

Found at the base of a deteriorating old growth stump off Stevens pass. Strong odor of cinnamon/ gym socks consistent with the usual fall tricholoma murrillianum but the cap was very dark brown as you can see.

Young fruiting body on the cut end of a fallen Sitka spruce. Spruce/Hemlock dominant canopy.
Cap and upper stem covered in creamy droplets/guttation. Outer flesh indented/pimpled at each guttation site throughout.
Cap Staining pinkish were handled.
Pores are circular to angular.
Harvested specimen and dehydrated/bagged for herbarium collection/genetic record.

Mature fruiting bodies beneath Sitka spruce and Western Hemlock. Yellow partial veil with yellow universal veil remnants at stem base and cap.

Two adult grey whales repulsed a 6-hour attack by ~20 killer whales. Between 20-30 Transient Killer Whales from several matrilines (CA39s, CA140Bs (Louise's family), CA180, CA40, CA137, CA163 "Liner") teamed up for six hours, but were not able to take down two adult Grey Whales who showed their defensive experience - they stayed side by side, kept their vulnerable bellies up, whacked KWs with massive throws of their flukes, and generally outlasted these hungry apex predators.
