Eggs were layed in this nest on March 8th. All five of them hatched. The young are over-crowded on this precarious ledge, but appear healthy - are stretching their wings and getting ready to fly.

Description
A pair of Red-shouldered Hawks established themselves here in late February and the Broad-winged Hawks have just returned - trying to stake out a territory. The Red-shouldered got the worst of this aerial jousting, but there will be more encounters and, hopefully, these birds will again arrive at a truce.

Description
I initially thought it was Cooper's but it's almost the size of a Crow. A Blue Jay wasn't afraid to swoop in and try to drive it away. Another Red-shouldered was squawking, nearby. I believe this bird to be a juvenile and sibling in a local pair. Two days of rain and fog and limited hunting opportunities for predators, this hawk was just trying to dry out as the temperature rose before his day began.

Description
It doesn't appear that it's some kind of injury damage as much as a deformity and, I understand, from A.K.D., (Avian Keratin Disorder). It's hard to believe she, a woodpecker, has survived to adulthood with this bill.
