Lycosidae: Anoteropsis sp.
Riverbed Wolf Spider (Oreti River)
two specimens, photographed within a few feet of each other on a dried, cracked mud-bed between river braids
Mason wasp victims.
7 found in the bath, with no obvious mud nest
It looks like this spider has made its home in the remains of a Mason wasp (Pison spinolae) nest.
Found in Pison nest, see previous Pison observation
I’ve been told that this is an orchid of some kind
Pretty big sucker. Very quick. Found it while digging in the vege garden.
Not one I’ve seen before. Has 8 eyes. Very shy and easy to photograph. I still have this one in a jar for a few days of further photos are needed
Found inside the house.
Was in a horizontal orb web above water (a stream). Struggling with ID so help appreciated.
Watched them dance around each other for a few minutes. Very cool. Wish I'd been quick enough to get a video.
Small (body span 6-8 mm), reddish fast moving spider noted on andesitic scoria within dried up stream bed.
On rocks right on the waters edge (river). In a later observation saw a spider with this body type spinning an orb web (at nighttime) and catching moths etc...
A small spider found amongst scree.
Wish I had a better camera to take a better picture of this one. Body length slightly over 10mm. Any ideas @kiwifergus ?
Female Katipo next to eggsack in the sand dunes
Huge spider, up a pine tree. Approx 8cm wide (including legs). Boyfriend brought it home for me (all the way from Wellington to Auckland) so I can't release it. Keen to know what this big fulla is and what he eats (otherwise it may have to be a trip to the freezer, unless someone in wellington is able to release him for me).
Looks like a male. Interesting red colour on its palps. Found in leaf litter - moves very, very fast.
