Some photos from my last night in Sarawak, Malaysia (island of Borneo) :( :( :'(. Such a beautiful country (and island) with amazing natural beauty, wildlife, and people. My first experience in the tropics was awesome and really mind-blowing. We spent as much time as possible out in the bush enjoying nature and were lucky enough to see a lot of amazing things. I feel very thankful and grateful for the opportunity to come here. Much respect to the wildlife and all of the people working to safeguard the islands biodiversity from habitat loss, poaching, and other threats. I hope this country remains so beautiful and diverse for many years to come. Hopefully one day I might be lucky enough to return. I know I barely scratched the surface on my 12 days in Borneo! But just really enjoyed exploring and photographing what I came across. Sad it's over, but happy for the memories!

Microsorum grossum at the base of a Caryota mitis palm along a lightly landscaped nature trail on the fringes of exotic-dominated secondary forest. The only clump of this fern in the area, and likely an escape from cultivation or an accidental planting.

• fronds with 5-10 pairs of lobes ((4-)5-8½ in this specimen)
• plant terrestrial
• rhizome robust, fleshy, ≥5 mm diam., not white-waxy
• rhizome scales clathrate, ovate, pale- to mid-brown, apex not long-acuminate
• anecdotally widespread in cultivation and under-recorded in Asia due to confusion with M. scolopendria, largely due to their being lumped in Flora Malesiana

ID is slightly tentative in case there are obscure species/hybrids closely resembling M. grossum that I haven't found out about.
