Description
WinterBotanywithin5KMofHome; after a week of soggy wet weather, the cones froze overnight and expanded, with some of the ice sublimating and allowing the seeds to escape and blow across the snow; I love the taste of these, as much as I love the similar taste of cedar tea.

Description
WinterBotanywithin5KMofHome; Squirrel-chewed cone of Jack Pine, but the rachis of the cone isn’t on the ground; I couldn’t see it up on the tree, but I’m supposing that the squirrel chews off the scales, takes the edible part, and leaves the rachis on the tree. Added fifth image of a rachis that has been cut off the tree, chewed ‘normally’, and discarded.
