Description
Observed a lot of these purple flowering desert plants that I assume is native to this area in the desert. The tallest of those observed were about 10-11” tall. Each pointed bloom pedal is not delicate, but the blooms occur in rounded domed clusters. The buds are pointy also. The leaves are not broadleaf, more resembling rosemary type leaves. Probably a bad comparison on the leaves. Really, a very pretty deep purple to light lavender flower.

I found six spikes at the same location where @hydaticus found this plant in June 2017. Only one flower was fully open. I only had my phone camera with me, but the images should be good enough for ID verification.

These flower photos are of stems that had been broken off by rabbits or squirrels. There is a smaller group of yellow plants still standing nearby. Hopefully these wire cages will hold up against herbivores and campus grounds staff.
