Southern Red Salamander (Pseudotriton ruber vioscai) from Jeff Busby Park, Mississippi

Small unnamed forest bottom stream. High quality environment, sand bottom. Spring fed. Lots of inverts in bottom.

Four toes on feet

Found under rock near rock outcropping. No sign of zigzag stripe on back. I think likely Southern Zigzag but does look similar to Webster’s as well.

Collected from swimming pool. Placed into fresh rainwater.

I have the prettiest red toads here!

A large number of Upland Chorus Frogs were heard--and many seen--in a large, fairly open, grassy area (a horse paddock, actually) with numerous shallow, rainwater-filled depressions.
