About 3 inches across and less. When i broke the cap the flesh started out yellow and quickly turned blue.
This garden was created last winter and includes plantings of azaleas. These fungi were growing underneath three of the azalea bushes, close to the plant stems. I'm guessing they came with the bushes.
Window strike this morning alerted me to look and there below was this. It’s still breathing but I have no way to get to it on a neighbors green roof patio area. 😕
I was surprised to see one chipmunk at my head as I approached the forest off Taylor Street Bridge. It was there for the white mulberries and scurried away as I got ready to take a picture the 3 more were on the ground in the undergrowth! Hope DCDept of Energy and Environment adds these to their count
