Larger than all the others seen in colony
Wairaki Stream Reserve, vicinity of 3 Royal Viking Way. One nest on the ground under a rotten log in native bush. Workers and queens observed. This observation is for the queens. Photo 1 shows two queens and a worker.
Locality: NEW ZEALAND AK, suburb of Epsom, Withiel Thomas Park.
Habitat: Remnant rock forest. Nesting on soil under a rock, adjacent to a domestic garden. Hundreds of workers and a few alate queens observed. The rock also had a queen Pheidole vigilans under it.
Identification: Solenopsis sp. ST1. Queens.
Found on the ground near house.
A small insect, less than 7 mm long. Apologies for poor-quality images, as the insect was in a low-light setting
8mm long (not including antenae).
Large, 5-10 mm, black with red, semi translucent at end of abdomen. Exoskeleton sparkles under light.
Found on the ground near house.
This one large ant was foraging slowly in this Isolepis cernua.
Rabbit chew is a routine issue with I.cernua too, as we see here.
Found under a rock.
