Scores of them were flying through this morning...and in recent days.
maybe the size of an old half dollar?
I picked up a bunch of garbage while in the ocean. When I was sorting it out for the rubbish bins, I found that this shell had hitched a ride. I tossed it back in the ocean.
Seagulls drew my attention. As I looked through the camera, I noticed the fin pop up briefly. That's all I saw.
There was a large "platter" of loose Brain coral (third picture) sitting on top of a boulder that is part of the jetty. I picked it up to examine it and found these anemones on the underside. I could not determine where the loose chunks of brain coral came from.
I thought it was a dead octopus, lying on the bottom. I picked it up to examine it and take a picture. I slowly realized it was still alive. I felt water coming out of the syphon and its tentacles lightly hanging on to me.
IT only had two tentacles left and seemed weak. It didn't seem very safe out on the open sandy bed, so I took it over to the rock jetty to leave it there where it might find a cubby hole to heal in.
At the rocks it was able to change color and slowly slip away into a crevice.
