yay, pretty sure this is a first for me both sighting and getting photos. Spent 45 mins following them around back and forth over the 200m it seems they've decided to call home.

? Dead rotting trunk and branch pieces nearby, near roadside and a few metres below footpath, on streambank in regenerating native forest . Monterey pine c.5m downhill. Several dead and dying tanekaha within 10-20m. Healthy-appearing kauri ricker c.20m away on opposite stream bank, similarly under a Monterey pine in regen forest, with an older kauri 50-100m upstream.
