Initially I ID'd this as a pure Glossy Ibis, but the reviewer from Ebird pointed out the bird's face is washed with pink and not a pure cold gray, and the facial skin boarder has a pinkish wash and is not a very light blue. In conjunction with the leg coloration, this bird is best described as an integrade or hybrid.
This is going back to April. A Glossy Ibis was reported in this specific area at the time. Wondering if anyone has thoughts/feedback on whether this might be a Glossy or White-faced?
Seems leg-color, grayish colored skin at lores (as opposed to pink) seem to point potentially to Glossy. Eye-color doesn't yell "red" to me and could be more brownish, but at the distance with heat shimmer, some detail is definitely lost for some details. Not much of any white edging to bill anywhere, much less completely around the eye in this plumage.
A Houston Audubon group that I met up with at this sighting seemed to think this was a Glossy.
I thought he/she may have been sick or injured because he let me get so close to him. If anyone knows anything please let me know. I hope I am wrong, I was/am concerned.
Best guess.
is this a juvenile?
