Yesterday morning (2nd September), I was woken early by a conversation between a male (wallawallawallawalla!) and a female (kehkehkehkeh!) Eastern Koel (the first visitation for this season). They were in the tall trees over my back fence.

By the afternoon, the male was feeding and calling (coo-eee!) from my mulberry tree (this audio). It is feeding in the tree again this morning (this photo ~ unfortunately it didn’t capture the distinctive red eye, which I could see clearly. I am sure that I will get better photos as the season progresses and it gets used to my presence = I’ll be able to get a little closer to it).

I have had a male & female Koel pair visiting my yard/tree throughout the last two Summers ~ I wonder if this might the same pair returning to a known food source (and safe haven 🙂) each time..
