Feral garden plant, moonseed is a common unplanted vine in yards, but people often leave it
This animal is very low to the ground, having short legs under its rounded body. I would describe its movement as a waddle. Estimated total body length 24-28 inches.
Not 100% on this by any means but I figured this would be worth posting to get some second opinions. We’re definitely not in prime badger habitat but looking at photos of badger burrows on google and it seems like a much better guess than an armadillo or something. The “skirt” of dirt around this was quite large, and there was even a second hole a little beyond the edge of the larger one. Might try and borrow a trail cam to confirm.
My nephew spotted this while we were doing a bird survey on Feb 4th. He noticed it as we drove by and said, "stop that might be a badger den!" This den, or sett, didn’t appear to be in use... no fresh dirt, tracks or sign of recent digging associated with it. What do you mammal experts think?
surprised to see him today - 60 degrees F.
Kendall County, TX
around 24 inches
These tracks stumped me but they definitely look like shrew tracks, only bigger. So best guess at this point is a water shrew.
Same area as dead one from Uri. This may be same individual I reported last week
tracks on shore found just after seeing the bird fly overhead
A set of somewhat obscure deer mouse tracks in fine mud.
This observation is for the tracks boxed in blue. Key fob appx. 7 cm long.
