Totara Valley is a 178 acre block of remnant and regenerated bush. The bush was mostly cleared after 1885 and completed within 5 years. Full scale regeneration started in the late 1980's when the owners gave in to Gorse and Braken. Cattle and Sheep still had access to the bush up until we took ownership of the land in 2022.
We fenced the bush from stock immediately and have seen we fast growth of understory in areas that were barren.
A large scale Possum control program removed over 2000 Possums, Pigs, Goats. Pest control is a permanent job and through this the bush slowly recovering and bird life returning to stay and nest.

Our goal is to eventually invite seriously interested people to visit and explore.
We have always been interested in native plants, but this is so much bigger than we ever thought we would be lucky enough to be the custodians of.
